MUMBAI: The Delhi police team, which is stationed in Vasai to help in the Shraddha Walkar murder case, collected the victim’s dental records on Thursday from a local dentist, who treated her several times.

The police team also recorded the statement of Shraddha’s dentistDr Ishan Atil Mota, who runs identist clinic at Ambadi Road in Vasai West. The details collected by the police include the treatment given by him to Shraddha, her case history and the X-rays of her teeth.

The X-rays, police officers said, could be used to identify the skull of the slain call centre employee if the Delhi police succeed in locating it.

Dr Mota told the investigating officers that Shraddha had visited him on different occasions for three root canal treatments and for the extraction of a wisdom tooth in November 2021. “I have given my statement to the police and also shared Shraddha’s case history with them. She had come to my clinic for at least eight sittings for her treatment. I also told them that Shraddha had made the payment for her treatment through her credit card,” said Mota. The matching of dental records could be used as additional or alternate evidence and help in identifying the skull if the teeth are found intact.

“Sometimes, if body parts are decomposed and deteriorated, getting a good sample for DNA testing becomes difficult and in such a scenario, the dental X-rays would come in handy,” said Mota. In addition to the details from the dentist, a joint police team of Delhi and Vasai police simultaneously launched an operation in Bhayander creek to search for Shraddha’s mobile phone.

The search operation was conducted on Thursday, after her live-in partner Aftab Poonawala, revealed during interrogation that he had thrown Shraddha’s phone in the creek in October this year when he visited his parent’s house in Vasai. The team of police officers along with three divers spent around two hours searching in the creek water between 4 and 6pm. One of the officers said the search will continue on Friday.

Aftab and Shraddha had spent several evenings on the bank of the creek in the initial days of their relationship.
