2-year-old girl drowns in Lonavla swimming pool

PUNE: A two-year-old girl drowned in a swimming pool at a bungalow in Lonavala Sunday. The police said the girl’s family had come from Dombivli to the hill station in the Pune district for an outing.

As per officials of the Lonavla City police, the incident took place around 9.15 am at Carnival Villa bungalow near Pichali hill in Lonavla.

The deceased has been identified as Haniyazhai­ra Mohamadnad­im Sayyad, a resident of Dombivali, Mumbai.

The incident was reported to the Lonavala City police station by the girl’s father Mohamand Naddem Kaisar Hussain Sayyd (31).

The incident occurred when some of the family members were having breakfast when the toddler managed to reach the swimming pool and fell in it.

The family realised this only when they heard screams of some others from the swimming pool area. All the family members rushed to the swimming pool to find that the girl had fallen into the water and was unresponsi­ve. She was rushed to a hospital in Lonavala where she was pronounced dead by the doctors.

Sitaram Dubal, senior police inspector at Lonavla City police station said, “When the toddler reached the pool and fell, people in the adjoining bungalow started shouting so that family members could know about the incident. The family members immediatel­y rushed to her in Sanjivani hospital where she was declared dead.’’

The police have registered an accidental death report under section 174 section of CRPC.

The deaths of these children are regrettabl­e and have tarnished the tourism industry of Lonavla, and the issue of safety and security of tourists at swimming pools has came to light.
