NEWDELHI: Three persons, including a 40-year-old woman, were injured after two groups of neighbours clashed in Rohini Sector 2 on Saturday night.

On Tuesday, a CCTV camera footage of the clash surfaced in which eight to nine men, at least five of them carrying sticks, are seen running towards the other group in a bid to attack them, even as police stood watch.

The family members of the woman, who suffered a head injury and a fracture on her shoulder, have alleged that four police personnel, who arrived in a patrolling van, remained mute spectators while they were attacked with sticks.

“Instead of stopping the attackers, the policemen supported the accused party and helped the attackers to flee the spot. In the video footage, one policeman can be seen signalling the attackers to leave the place,” the injured woman’s son alleged.

Prem Nath, additional commissioner of police (operations), said, “We will speak to the complainant and go through the video footage. Strict action will be taken if the police personnel present at the spot are found guilty.”

A case of attempt to murder, molestation, sexual harassment and threatening under the IPC was registered on the complaint of the injured woman. The woman’s identity has been withheld since she accused the attackers of molesting her and other women members of her family.

The woman in her complaint also told police that she was sitting with some women outside her home when a man living in their neighbourhood made some indecent remarks about her.

“When my mother protested, the man started arguing. He threw a flower pot that hit her head and she started bleeding. When we intervened, the man called his relatives and friends and they attacked us with sticks,” the woman’s son said, adding his brother was also injured.

Deputy commissioner of police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said the accused suffered injuries and he has been taken into custody. “The accused is undergoing treatment. We will arrest him soon,” he said.
