CNN SUES WHITE HOUSE OVER REVOKED CREDENTIALS OF CORRESPONDENT
WASHINGTON: CNN filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against the Trump administration over the revocation of press credentials for White House correspondent Jim Acosta, a frequent target of President Donald Trump. The cable network demanded the return of Acosta’s credentials in the lawsuit filed in US District Court in Washington. It said the White House violated the First Amendment right to free speech as well as the due process clause of the Constitution providing fair treatment through judicial process. White House press secretary Sarah Sanders dismissed it as “just more grandstanding from CNN,” vowing to vigorously defend against the suit.
Tesla’s Indian exemployee charged for embezzlement
NEW YORK : A 32-year-old Indian man, a former Tesla employee, has been charged for allegedly stealing $9.3 million from the American electric car company by falsifying financial documents to divert payments from one supplier to another. Salil Parulekar has been charged with nine counts of wire fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft. If convicted, the maximum penalty for each count of wire fraud is 20 years’ imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. The maximum sentence for aggravated identity theft is two years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Pak approves Rs 1,700 crore bailout for sick airline
ISLAMABAD: The cash-strapped Pakistani government has approved a Rs 1,700 crore bailout package for its ailing national flag carrier PIA which has been running into losses for years. The government on Monday approved the bailout package for the Pakistan International Airlines to keep it afloat for the next two months, the Express Tribune reported. It is the first bailout package approved by the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
China dismisses ‘hearsay’ on Muslim internment
BEIJING: China defended its internment of Muslims in the country’s northwest as a terror prevention measure on Tuesday, calling on the international community to reject “hearsay” and believe its official line. “We hope our journalist friends and our other foreign friends will take into consideration the information and briefings on the situation given by the Chinese authorities,” said China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi. “Rumours and hearsay should not be believed,” he said standing next to his German counterpart Heiko Maas.
Australian driver found guilty of six murders
MELBOURNE : An Australian man who drove a car into dozens of pedestrians on a busy shopping street in central Melbourne last year, killing six people, was found guilty of murder and reckless conduct by the Victorian state Supreme Court on Tuesday. In under an hour, a jury found James Gargasoulas, 28, guilty of murdering six people and recklessly injuring a further 27 people after he sped down Bourke Street shopping mall in January of 2017, local media reported. The dead included a baby.
