NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested six men for allegedly abducting the driver of an app-based cab from south Delhi on December 2, beating him up, robbing him of his valuables and throwing him out of the vehicle on Barapullah flyover.

Police said that the men fled with the driver’s Alto car to Bulandshahr and planned to sell it off. Police claimed with the arrests, they have solved 13 theft cases reported mostly from south Delhi.

According to police , one of the accused, Sandeep (19), a resident of Lodi Road complex, has a case of burglary registered against him and was to coach doctors and interns of AIIMS in lawn tennis.

Sandeep’s five associates were identified as Rajveer alias Vicky (21), Ram Yadav (20), Shyam Yadav (20), Rahul Kumar (18) and Aamir (19), all of who hail from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, from where they were nabbed.

Deputy commissioner of police (south) Vijay Kumar said that on Sunday morning, a PCR call was received about the incident. A police team reached Barapullah flyover where a man, Murlidhar, introduced himself as the driver of the robbed car.

“He said that the men robbed him of his mobile phone, wallet containing ATM cards and cash of ₹5,000. He also claimed that they later tied his hands and drove towards Barapullah flyover where they threw him out of the car, near Sarai Kale Khan bus terminal. During probe, the car’s owner said that the vehicle had GPS installed, which was not working. The fault was rectified and the car traced to Gulawati in Bulandshahr,” the DCP said.

Kumar said a police team arrived at the spot and laid a trap. “On Wednesday, two of the suspects were spotted trying to start the car. When the police team asked them to stop, they tried to escape but were nabbed. On their instance, other four were arrested,” the DCP said.
