Fortunegia­nts defeat Titans in close Pro Kabaddi match

VISAKHAPAT­NAM: Gujarat Fortunegia­nts earned a hard-fought 29-27 win over Telugu Titans in the inter-zone challenge week of Pro Kabaddi here on Friday.

The raiding duo of K Prapanjan and Sachin combined to score 19 points to lead their team’s charge. Rahul Chaudhari top scored with 8 points for the Titans who remain bottom of the table in Zone B.

Later in the evening, Pardeep Narwal produced an outstandin­g raiding performanc­e as Patna Pirates hammered Puneri Paltan 53-36.

MAURESMO REJECTS DAVIS CUP CAPTAINCY

PARIS: Former world number one Amelie Mauresmo has turned her back on becoming France’s new Davis Cup captain, opting instead to work with French player Lucas Pouille. A statement from the French Tennis Federation on Thursday confirmed the U-turn by the 39-yearold who had been named in June to become the first woman to captain the French team.

SABLE, SURIYA FOR KOLKATA RUN

KOLKATA: Avinash Sable and L Suriya, who finished best among Indians last year, will be again be part of the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K road race that will be held here on December 16. Since the run is being held on Vijay Diwas, a 25k run for the armed forces will also be held. The $100,000 prize money event will also have Ethiopian Degitu Azimeraw and twotime world champion Florence Kiplagat of Kenya.

DEEPIKA TO WED ATANU

RANCHI: Ace India archer Deepika Kumari (24) will tie the knot with Olympian archer Atanu Das (26) sometime in December next year, family sources confirmed. The two will get engaged at Deepika’s home village of Ratu Chati, 15 km from Ranchi, on Monday. Former Jharkhand chief minister Arjun Munda and his wife Mira, who was instrument­al in shaping Deepika’s career, are likely to be the guests of honour at the ceremony.

NEW DELHI: A two-day football clinic for under-19 footballer­s from the schools and colleges of the Delhi-ncr region will be held at the Ambedkar Stadium here on December 11-12. The clinic will be supervised by Danish coaches Christian Hansen and Rasmus Stenlid.

ROHANA IN LEAD

BENGALURU: Sri Lankan Anura Rohana powered ahead by three shots after shooting a sublime eight-under-64 in round two of the PGTI Bengaluru Open Golf Championsh­ip 2018 here on Friday. Rohana’s bogey-free effort in windy conditions took his 36-hole total to an imposing 13-under-131 at the Karnataka Golf Associatio­n (KGA) course.

GURUGRAM: Anushka Gupta and Chaitanya Gupta won the under-7 girls’ and boys’ competitio­ns, respective­ly, at the US Kids Golf India Tour’s first event here on Friday. The event saw as many as 71 participan­ts.
