Northeast, ATK play out goalless draw in ISL clash

- HTC & Agencies sportsdesk@hindustantimes.com

GUWAHATI: Northeast United and ATK fought to a goalless draw in their Indian Super League (ISL) encounter here on Sunday.

This is the third consecutive draw for Northeast United in this year’s edition. After draws against Jamshedpur FC and Bengaluru FC, where they led till the closing stages of the game, NorthEast United were forced to share the spoils again.

Northeast United have scored only one goal in their last three games but the point gained saw them reclaim the second spot with 20 points from 11 games. ATK are still sixth with 16 points.

BENGALURU HOST MUMBAI CITY

BENGALURU: The only unbeaten team in the tournament, Bengaluru FC will look to continue their unbeaten run and consolidate their top position at the top when they host Mumbai City in an Indian Super League match here on Sunday.

While Bengaluru have won seven matches and drawn two to grab the top position, Mumbai have registered six wins, two draws and two losses to be placed in the second spot with 20 points.

EAST BENGAL WIN

KOLKATA: Joby Justin said ‘we are back,’ after East Bengal returned to winning ways after three games, beating Gokulam Kerala FC 3-1 here on Saturday. The comment had none of the flamboyance usually associated with such a statement but ensured that the biggest match in Indian club football — the Kolkata derby, scheduled for December 16 — stays alive.

The ease with which Christian Sabah scored in the 57th, turning swifter than central defender Borja Gomez expected him to and meeting a long ball from Daniel Addo though showed that East Bengal haven’t repaired all the cracks. Of the two teams, Gokulam Kerala FC coach Bino George said Mohun Bagan looked the better side. But after Lalram Chullova scored in the 82nd minute that stays a story for another evening. East Bengal moved to nine points and Gokulam Kerala stayed on nine from seven.

CHURCHILL SEEK WIN

GOA: In-form and unbeaten Churchill Brothers will look to produce another splendid performance against former champions Aizawl FC when the two teams meet in an I-league fixture here Sunday.
