Rai snubs Edulji on Powar

- HTC & Agencies sportsdesk@hindustantimes.com

NEW DELHI: COA (Committee of Administrators) chairman Vinod Rai has decided against his colleague Diana Edulji’s call to scrap the selection process of the India women’s team coach and continue with Ramesh Powar at least till the tour of New Zealand, beginning next month.

In a letter to Rai, COA member Edulji said that Powar should be given an extension at least till the New Zealand tour, considering he has the backing of Twenty20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur and opener Smriti Mandhana.

Rai, however, in his reply made it clear that scrapping the coach selection process is out of the question as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already invited applications for the job. The application deadline ends on December 14. Manoj Prabhakar, former South Africa opener Herschelle Gibbs and ex-england all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas are among the applicants.

SUBRAMANIUM RESIGNS

NEWDELHI:FORMER Solicitor General of India Gopal Subramanium has resigned as the amicus curiae in the 2013 IPL betting and fixing case.

According to a top source in the know of things, Subramanium, who assisted the special bench in the implementation of the RM Lodha committee reforms on BCCI, resigned last week citing “personal” reasons. Subramanium was appointed in 2016 when Chief Justice TS Thakur was hearing the IPL case filed by the Cricket Association of Bihar.

The BCCI now has a new constitution but its adoption remains a work in progress. The full implementation of the new Board constitution is being overseen by the Committee of Administrators. Subramanium’s resignation comes at a time when the Supreme Court is still hearing the BCCI case, especially the functioning and composition of the COA.
