Now, parking free in hospitals and malls of east Delhi
NEWDELHI: The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on Friday directed all shopping malls and hospitals in areas under its jurisdiction to make parking free for visitors on their premises.
In a public notice, the civic body directed owners of shopping malls and hospitals not to take parking charges from visitors. Non-compliance of the direction, the notice states, would attract stern action.
Stating that parking spaces in hospitals, malls and commercial establishments were free of the floor area ratio (FAR) rule, East Delhi mayor Bipin Bihari said the owners cannot, hence, use the parking lots for commercial purposes. He added that parking at all such establishments would be free Friday onward.
“If any establishment is found charging for their parking service, the corporation would take stringent actions against them,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Following a Delhi high court order pertaining to the issue, the east corporation had, on August 27, passed a resolution. The public notice was drafted last week, which has been issued on Friday.
“The collection of parking fee amounts to commercial use which is against the sanctioned building plan. All authorities are cautioned fee should not be collected for parking in the earmarked area in offices, shopping malls and hospitals. EDMC will take action against violators,” the notice read.
