BANGLADESH WIN 3RD ODI, SERIES DESPITE HOPE TON

SYLHET: Bangladesh rode an unbeaten 81 from opener Tami Iqbal and a spunky 80 from Soumya Sarkar to defeat West Indies by eight wickets and win the three-match series 2-1. Shai Hope had scored his second successive hundred of the series before Bangladesh restricted West Indies to 198-9 on Friday. Off-spinner Mehidy Hasan led the attack for Bangladesh, finishing with career best figures of 4-29. The score, however didn’t prove to be huge for the hosts as they won the match with the help of a 131-run second-wicket stand between Sarkar and Iqbal with 69 deliveries left.

Malinga back as Sri Lanka ODI, T20 skipper

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka on Friday brought back Lasith Malinga after a long hiatus as captain of the limited-over squads to lead the national team against New Zealand. Sri Lanka Cricket said the 35-year-old right-arm fast bowler was named skipper of a 17-man squad for three ODIS and one T20 starting January 3. Malinga led Sri Lanka to the T20 World Cup in 2014. But since captaining Sri Lanka against the UAE in February 2016, he has not led the national team.
