SENSEX RECLAIMS 36,000-LEVEL, NIFTY ENDS ABOVE 10,850

MUMBAI: Continuing its rising spree for the fourth session, benchmark BSE Sensex reclaimed the 36,000 mark by jumping over 200 points on Wednesday tracking positive cues from global markets on rising hopes that the US and China would strike a deal to end their trade tiff. Moreover, optimistic buying by investors ahead of Q3 earnings season supported the rally. The BSE Sensex after a gap-up opening at 36,181.37, advanced further to the day’s high of 36,250.54, before ending at 36,212.91, showing a gain of 231.98 points, or 0.64%. The gauge had gained by 467 points in the previous three sessions. The NSE Nifty also gained 53 points, or 0.49%, to settle 10,855.15 after shuttling between 10,870.40 and 10,749.40.

Govt eyes about $1 bn from Air India sale

NEW DELHI: The government is eyeing around $1 billion (about ₹7,000 crore) from the sale of national carrier Air India in the next financial year, a government official said. The government will initiate the process of strategic disinvestm­ent of Air India in the second half of 2019-20 and in between it would work towards selling some of its subsidiari­es and monetize assets. Air India has a debt burden of ₹55,000 crore. In November last year, a ministeria­l panel headed by finance minister Arun Jaitley had approved transferri­ng ₹29,000 crore debt to a special purpose vehicle (SPV)— Air India Asset Holding Company. “We are eyeing $1 billion from the sale of Air India,” the official said.

Cook’s $12 million bonus for 2018 is his biggest ever

NEW YORK: Apple Inc. chief executive officer Tim Cook collected his biggest-ever annual bonus for fiscal 2018 after the iphone maker posted record revenue and profit, and its market value temporaril­y eclipsed $1 trillion. Cook received a $12 million bonus for the year ended September 29, the Cupertino, California-based company said on Tuesday in a filing. He also got a $3 million salary and shares worth $121 million from his 10-year stock award, bringing his total haul to $136 million, along with perks of about $682,000. The bonus was linked to revenue and operating income targets, both of which rose 16% from a year earlier.

Jeff, Mackenzie Bezos are divorcing after 25 yrs

LONDON: Amazon.com Inc. founder Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest person, and his wife Mackenzie are divorcing after 25 years. “After a long period of loving exploratio­n and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends,” according to a tweet on Wednesday that both of them signed. The couple met when they worked at hedge fund D.E. Shaw, and married in 1993. He founded Amazon a year later. Bezos, 54, is worth $137 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionair­es Index, a ranking of the world’s 500 wealthiest individual­s. A divorce could reshape the wealth rankings. If the couple split their fortune equally, it could leave Mackenzie, 48, with $69 billion, making her the world’s richest woman.
