DHONI, SHIKHAR HIT NETS AT SCG AHEAD OF 1ST ODI
SYDNEY: India’s limited-overs specialists, including MS Dhoni, hit the straps at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday. Dhoni, along with other whiteball specialists, including Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Dinesh Karthik and Khaleel Ahmed, joined the India team here. Dhoni, Dhawan, Jadhav and Rayudu went through the paces ahead of the first ODI in Sydney on Saturday. The quartet primarily took throwdowns as no specialist bowlers were present for the optional session.
Injured Mathews out of Tests vs Australia
SYDNEY: Former captain Angelo Mathews has a hamstring injury and won’t be part of the Sri Lanka squad for its two-test series in Australia. Team officials said Wednesday that Mathews tweaked his hamstring during Sri Lanka’s tour of New Zealand and that he had been left out of a 16-man squad for tests in Brisbane and Canberra. Matthews was Sri Lanka’s highest run scorer in their two-test series against New Zealand.
Lanka cricket corruption: ICC announces amnesty
DUBAI : The ICC on Wednesday announced a 15-day amnesty to participants who have previously failed to report any information concerning corrupt conduct in Sri Lankan cricket. The amnesty, which will run from 16-31 January, will apply to all participants under both the ICC and Sri Lankan Cricket Anti-corruption codes. Under these codes, both domestic and international participants are obliged to report, without delay, full details of any approaches, incident or information that they receive to engage in corrupt conduct.
Albie Morkel retires from all forms of cricket
CAPE TOWN : Former South Africa all-rounder Albie Morkel has decided to retire from all forms of cricket, ending a two-decade career that earned him a reputation as a clean striker of the ball and a bowler full of guile. The 37-year-old, the older brother of Morne Morkel, played a single Test, 58 ODIS and 50 T20 matches for South Africa over 11 years.
