Bulandshahr violence: Local BJP youth wing leader arrested
MEERUT:THE Uttar Pradesh police arrested Shikhar Agarwal, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the BJP’S youth wing, and one of the prime accused in the violence that rocked Bulandshahr last month, from Hapur Thursday morning.
Later in the day, he was produced before the court of chief judicial magistrate (CJM) Avdhesh Pandey who sent him to two week’s judicial custody
Police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh and a civilian Sumit Kumar were shot dead in Syana tehsil during mob violence after cattle carcasses were found strewn in the fields outside Mahaw village on December 3.
Agarwal is the president of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) youth wing in Syana and had been absconding since December 3 after his name was included in the FIR against 87 people, out of whom 27 were named for the violence.
Superintendent of police (city), Bulandshahr, Atul Kumar Srivastava said Shikhar was arrested on Thursday from Hapur and was taken to Syana Kotwali for further interrogation. “He would be presented before the court after interrogation,” he added.
Srivastava said Shikhar was one of the prime accused in Bulandshahr violence case.
Police have arrested 36 people in the case and 50 are still at large. Sumit Kumar, who was killed in the violence, had also been named in the FIR.
Police had earlier arrested another prime accused Yogesh Raj, district coordinator of Bajrang Dal, and Pawan Kumar, who is associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), in connection with the violence.
