THE PROJECTS INCLUDE THE CHANDNI CHOWK REDEVELOPMENT PLAN, AND CONSTRUCTION, EXPANSION OF THREE STATE-RUN HOSPITALS

NEWDELHI:THE Delhi government on Friday said it has approved eight important infrastructure projects worth ₹1,572 crore, which include the Chandni Chowk redevelopment plan as well as the construction and expansion of three state-run hospitals.

The projects were approved by the government’s Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) which is headed by deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia.

The much-delayed redevelopment of Chandni Chowk from Lal Jain Mandir to Fatehpuri mosque was also cleared by the committee. Under the Chandni Chowk project, the urban development department will pedestrianise the entire stretch at an estimated cost of ₹65.63 crore.

Sisodia said the most expensive of all the eight projects will be construction of an integrated campus at GB Pant Engineering College which will be done in two phases and will take two years to complete.

“The infrastructure will be rebuilt in a modern way and will cost around ₹526 crore. The new campus will have an upgraded hostel for 400 students, academic blocks, administration, canteen, libraries and so on. In the first phase, whole academic, administration and hostel will be done. In the second phase, activity blocks, canteen, central blocks etc will be constructed,” Sisodia, who is also Delhi’s finance minister, said.

In another project, which will be executed by the flood and irrigation department, the government will construct a six-lane 149metre-long bridge near ChhawlaNajafgarh drain, next to an already constructed narrow bridge. The project will take two years at a cost of ₹36 crore.

Three projects are related to hospitals. “One of the projects will involve addition and re-modelling of Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital which has 200 beds. A total of 573 beds will be added and it will be converted into a 773-bed hospital, including 513 beds as part of an integrated cancer hospital. It will cost ₹244 crore,” the minister said.

As many as 12,000 additional classrooms under two zones of south and southeast district will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹32.36 crores. “By the end of this year, 11,000 classrooms will be constructed,” Sisodia added.
