Voting for Cong means victory for BJP, says AAP in poll drive
NEWDELHI:AT a time when speculation is rife over a possible alliance between the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the general elections, the ruling party in Delhi has been urging people in its campaigns not to vote for the former if they want the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to be defeated in the capital.
Dropping a hint that AAP may contest Delhi’s seven parliamentary seats on its own, party chief Arvind Kejriwal has asked his party workers and volunteers to make Delhiites understand that voting for the Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha election would mean victory for the BJP.
Atishi, the party’s candidate for the East Delhi LS seat, has already started distributing pamphlets to residents in the area explaining the party’s position.
To ensure AAP workers conduct a focused campaign for the elections, Kejriwal has personally been conducting training sessions for them in Delhi since Thursday.
While on Thursday he interacted with volunteers from the South Delhi constituency, Friday was reserved for those from East Delhi. Kejriwal will cover the remaining five parliamentary constituencies by January 16.
In the last Lok Sabha elections, (in Delhi) the BJP got 46% votes and AAP obtained 33% and Congress 15% votes, the AAP convener said.
“The surveys reveal BJP is going to lose 10% of its vote share this time and you need to tell people that if these votes are polled by AAP, it will win all seven seats in Delhi by scoring 43% votes. You have to explain to people that voting for Congress means victory of BJP,” Kejriwal told AAP workers in one such meeting.
CM AT COW SHELTER
Kejriwal on Friday visited a cow shelter (gaushala) in North West Delhi’s Bawana area where he alleged that the BJP seeks votes in the name of cows but does not provide any fodder to the bovines.
The AAP convener said he would visit gaushalas next week in Haryana, where the party plans to fight all seats in the Lok Sabha polls.
During his Friday visit, representatives of the cow shelter reportedly told the CM that the North Delhi Municipal Corporation had not released its share of funds for two years, due to which they had to face problems.
“The Delhi government has released its share of funds but those who seek votes in the name of cows refuse to give fodder to cows. This is not right. AAP does not seek votes in the name of cows,” he said.
Veena Virmani, standing committee chairperson, North MCD, said: I am not aware if money has been given to the gaushala or not and so I will not react. However, we will look into the matter.
On Wednesday, development minister Gopal Rai had introduced a draft policy for birds and animals in the city.
