Sharma and Bhullar stay afloat in Dubai

DUBAI:INDIAN golfers Shubhankar Sharma and Gaganjeet Bhullar carded two-under 70 and threeunder 69 respective­ly to lie tied 38th after the third round of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic Saturday. Shubhankar gained eight places while Bhullar moved 18 spots up to be six-under each.

American Bryson Dechambeau converted a round that seemed to be going the wrong way following back-to-back bogeys on seventh and eighth at which point he was one-over for the day. He holed five birdies in the last 10 holes to card four-under 68 and take sole lead at 16-under to be in sight of his maiden overseas win.

WIJKAANZEE: Viswanatha­n Anand slipped to joint fourth spot after a draw with Poland’s Jan Krzysztof Duda, while Vidit Gujrathi improved his chances by defeating third seed Shakhriyar Mamedyarov of Azerbaijan in the 11th round of Tata Steel chess here on Saturday.

The draw took Anand to 6.5 points out of a possible 11. Magnus Carlsen of Norway played out an easy draw with Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan and Dutchman Anish Giri benefitted from a ‘resignatio­n-blunder’ by Samuel Shankland of United States to join Carlsen, the world champion, in the lead on 7.5 points.

GREATER NOIDA: Amit Dhanker handed Punjab Royals a 4-3 win over Haryana Hammers and a place in the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) semi-finals after winning the last bout against Praveen Rana 4-2 in men’s 74kg here on Saturday. Before Amit, Cynthia Vescan, Bajrang Punia and Dato Magarishvi­li won their respective bouts to cement Punjab’s place in the semis. Bajrang ‘s win came against Rajneesh in men’s 65kg.
