2 KERALA YOUTH CONG WORKERS HACKED TO DEATH

THIRUVANAN­THAPURAM: Two Youth Congress workers were stabbed to death allegedly by a group of CPI(M) workers in north Kerala’s Kasargode district on Sunday night, police said. The slain workers were identified as Kripesh (21) and Sharth Lal (26). The Congress has called a district shutdown on Monday but the ruling CPI(M) denied any role in the twin murders saying some personal enmity between two groups led to the killings. But the Congress reiterated that it was cold- blooded political murders.

Man arrested for hate crime after throwing coffee

NEW YORK: A man was arrested on hate crime charges in the US state of California after he punched a Sikh clerk and threw hot coffee on him. according to a media report. The man, identified as John Crain, threw the hot coffee at the clerk then punched him in the face before fleeing just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday in Marysville, the Sacramento Bee reported. He told police he “hated Muslims” and attacked the Sikh clerk because he believed he’s Muslim.

GRP personnel beat up passengers in Darjeeling

MALDA: General Railway Police (GRP) personnel allegedly beat up several passengers of Kolkatabou­nd Darjeeling mail on Saturday night at Malda town station. Passengers said after some of them protested against GRP personnel collecting fines ranging from ₹700 to ₹1,200 from passengers they allegedly spotted smoking in the train toilets, without issuing receipts. Inspector-in-charge of GRP (Malda town), Bhaskar Pradhan, however, denied the charges.

179 Nepali citizens rescued on way to Myanmar

IMPHAL: The 147 women and 32 men, who were rescued from different parts of Manipur after being trafficked from Nepal, were repatriate­d through the Nepal Embassy in Imphal on Sunday. Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh was also present at the function. The Nepali citizens including two suspected human trafficker­s were rescued in one of the biggest rescue operations, in the Manipur capital and Moreh, on the Indo-myanmar border, on February 1 and 2 this year.

Indian man sexually harasses girl at Dubai mall

DUBAI: An Indian salesman has been accused of sexually harassing a 15-year-old girl at a mall in Dubai. According to police, the incident took place on November 13, 2018. The victim said the accused grabbed a dress and pulled her to a corner in the shop before rushing to help her button it. He then groped and touched her inappropri­ately in the process, the Khaleej Times reported.

Bengal BJP leader held in daughter’s ‘abduction’ case

MIDNAPORE: Bengal Police arrested a BJP leader of Birbhum district three days after he alleged his daughter was abducted, following which a mob of his supporters chased down local Trinamool Congress MLA Manirul Islam on Saturday and forced the legislator to take shelter in a police station. “It was all staged. We rescued the girl from Dalkhola area in Malda district and have arrested her father, a BJP leader, and two of his associates,” said Tanmay Sarkar, additional superinten­dent of police, Birbhum.
