G Noida body wants ₹336cr for handover of institute

GREATERNOI­DA: The Greater Noida authority has started the process of handing over the Government Institute of Medical Sciences to the medical education department of Uttar Pradesh. The authority wants the medical education department to pay a bill of ₹336 crore—the amount it spent on developing, maintainin­g and buying land for this facility—as part of the handover.

“We have sent a letter to the Government Institute of Medical Sciences to start the handover to the medical education department. Once the department pays the cost of 56.24 acres of land and the money spent on the developmen­t of the facility, the authority will hand it over to the department as per procedure,” Deep Chander additional chief executive officer of the Greater Noida authority, said.

The Government Institute of Medical Sciences was founded in 2008 as Manyawar Kanshiram Multi-speciality­hospital.infebruary 2016, the hospital was renamed. The Government Institute of Medical Sciences is the first government institute to offer a programme in medicine in Gautam Budh Nagar. The institute has 100 MBBS seats at the campus and also provides medical facilities in the city. The 300bed institute gets around 1,500 patients every day in its out-patient department.

The admission to this residentia­l medical college is done based on NEET scores. The annual fee is around ₹82,000 as per government norms.

“We have received a letter from the Greater Noida authority and have communicat­ed the same to the medical education department. The matter is under the process and a decision on this issue may be taken soon,” Dr (Brig) Rakesh Gupta, director, Government Institute of Medical Sciences, said.

Officials of the Government Institute of Medical Sciences said the institute has taken required steps that included establishi­ng a blood bank, appointing faculty members, procuring equipment, preparing academic blocks, hostels and other requiremen­ts for the medical college to meet the parameters fixed by the medical council of India.

Located in Greater Noida near Kasna, this medical facility spread on 56.24 acres, caters to the people of Greater Noida, Jewar, Dadri, as well as Hapur and Bulandshah­r. The institute offers medical services in the fields of surgery, orthopaedi­cs, gynaecolog­y, ophthalmol­ogy, paediatric­s, pathology, microbiolo­gy, biochemist­ry, physiother­apy, anaesthesi­a, dermatolog­y, psychiatry, respirator­y medicine, and dental surgery.

As per urban town planning rules, this facility will have to use 36.56 acres of land as green area and the remaining for building.
