Night sweeping to be taken up in all Noida markets

-

NOIDA: The authority has asked the health department to start night sweeping in all markets from December 4, with an aim to ensure proper cleanliness in commercial areas. At present, the authority cleans all markets in day time only.

The move is also aimed at performing better in next year’s Swachhta mission survey. The authority hopes these steps will help them perform better this time unlike earlier when Noida city was ranked at 150.

“Day time sweeping does not yield much success because of cars parked on roads and shops. During night, however, markets are free from cars or visitors. Therefore, sweeping at night will be easier and in the morning traders and visitors will witness a cleaner market,” said Indu Prakash Singh, officer on special duty of the Noida authority.

Noida’s busiest commercial hub Sector 1 attracts over 50,000 visitors daily, as per a rough estimate by the authority staff. Other markets such as at Sector 104, Sector 50, Atta village, Sector 63, Ganga Shopping Complex in Sector 29 and Indira Market, among others, also witness huge number of visitors daily. But officials said the level of cleanliness that prevails in those markets is not satisfactory.

“When sanitation employees go to clean these markets after 9am or 10am, they cannot clean the garbage because of car parking and visitors. But in the night, they will not he having this problem,” said Singh.

The sanitation employees will clean markets after 9pm, when the markets generally start shutting down, authority officials added.
