GREATERNOIDA: A woman ‘doctor’ has been booked by the Greater Noida police after a complaint was filed against her by the family of a 25-year-old pregnant woman who died due to complications following alleged negligence by the suspect.

The police suspect that the ‘doctor’ does not hold a valid degree.

The victim was identified as Sahima, a native of Uncha Dankaur village. According to her family members, she was threemonth pregnant on March 23 when she complained of stomach pain.

“I took her to a doctor near our house. After a while, the doctor said that my wife had suffered a miscarriage and in order to avoid infection, she would have to undergo an operation. After operation, when I brought her home, her condition continued to deteriorate,” said Afsar Khan, the woman’s husband who runs a scrap business.

Khan said that when the couple went back to the ‘doctor’, she referred her to a private hospital.

“There the doctors found a 15cm plastic tube inside her uterus which had been left by the woman doctor during her first operation. The tube was taken out and my wife was finally discharged on April 4,” said Khan.

He said that Sahima continued to suffer and was subjected to treatments for another six months.

“We spent over ₹10 lakh in medical expenses, but my wife didn’t survive. She succumbed to infection at a hospital in Greater Noida on October 5. I then went to the woman doctor and told her how her negligence had led to my wife’s death. However, instead of showing any remorse, she started arguing with me and even threatened to file false rape or SC/ST act case against me,” said the complainant.

Based on Khan’s complaint, a case was registered against the woman doctor at Dankaur police station under sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) , 315 (preventing a child to be born or causing it to die) and 304 (punishment for culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code.

“Prima facie it seems that the woman is not a professional doctor. We are gathering the necessary evidence and have looked at the medical reports from the private hospital. Due action will be taken soon,” said Akhilesh Pradhan, station house officer, Dankaur police station.
