GHAZIABAD: THE Ghaziabad municipal corporation has planned a centralised command and control centre from the funds which the city will be getting under the state Smart City plan. The Ghaziabad corporation was among the six municipal bodies selected in September-end under UP’S smart city plan.

Under the plan, each of the selected corporations will get Rs 50 crore for five years for investment in development projects. On September 24, the UP cabinet in a decision had selected seven corporations - Meerut, Ghaziabad, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Mathura-vrindavan, Firozabad and Shahjahanpur.

After the selection, the initial focus of the corporation officials was for making project for better solid waste management. However, the officials have now decided that they will come up with a project for a command and control centre.

“We are getting prepared the detailed project report for the development of a command and control centre. The centre will integrate all our services at a single point and will also help in redressal of consumer complaints related to different services. Such a facility will help us serve city residents in a better manner,” said Dinesh Chandra, municipal commissioner.

“The work for the preparation of the DPR is in the works and we expect to complete it by January. Thereafter the DPR will be sent to the state government for further approvals,” he added.

In a surprise inspection on November 18, UP chief secretary RK Tiwari had rapped the corporation officials and also inspected the complaints registered. Tiwari later made calls to citizens who told that complaints had been pending for as long as 25 days. The officer had later directed corporation to take corrective actions.

Under the state’s smart city plan, the UP chief minister had aimed that the seven corporations with the help of funds will be able to plan for better management, improve traffic issues, better drinking water facilities, proper electricity infrastructure and solid waste management facilities etc.

In 2018, the Ghaziabad city had participated in Centre’s Smart City initiative but failed to make it to the final list. The cities in UP which got selected under the Smart City initiative so far includes Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi, Bareilly, Aligarh, Saharanpur, Prayagraj, Jhansi and Moradabad.
