NEWDELHI: A 31-year-old man died after he was stabbed more than a dozen times by two men following an altercation in south Delhi’s Govindpuri in the early hours of Wednesday. The two were arrested on Wednesday night. The police said the victim had a criminal background and was involved in at least 10 cases of attempt to murder, assault, and possession of firearms.

Deputy commissioner of police (southeast) RP Meena said that around 3am, the police control room received a call regarding a murder near the Hanuman temple in Govindpuri. A police team reached the crime scene and rushed the injured man to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where he was declared dead on arrival. At least a dozen stab wounds were found on the body of the man, identified as Vishal Sharma alias Khali. “We registered a case of murder and an investigation was taken up,” DCP Meena said.

During the investigation, the DCP said, it was learnt that Sharma had quarrelled with some people, who stabbed him with a knife and fled. The police analysed the footage from CCTV cameras installed around the crime scene to identify and nab the suspects.

During the probe, it was found that Vishal, the local goon, used to rough up the two men, identified as Yash Jham and Subham Sharma of Govindpuri. The police said that Vishal also suspected Yash of an attack on him in 2017. Early Wednesday, Vishal ran into Subham near Gurudwara Chowk and assaulted him. Subham called Yash for help, who, having had enough of Vishal’s behaviour, stabbed him to death.
