Covishield vaccine vials arrive in GB Nagar, Gzb
On January 16, the vaccination drive will begin; each centre will get 100 vials
NOIDA: The first batch of the Covishield vaccine, containing 28,840 doses, was delivered to the Gautam Budh Nagar district on Thursday. A police van escorted the vaccine van from Meerut to the office of the chief medical officer (CMO) in Sector 39, at 3pm. The doses have been stored at the CMO’S office for now, from where they will be dispatched to six vaccination centres on Friday.
Dr Deepak Ohri, CMO, said that on Friday afternoon, the health department will dispatch vaccines to vaccination centres at Super Speciality Paediatric Hospital & Post Graduate Teaching Institute and Kailash Hospital in Noida, Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) and Sharda Hospital in Greater Noida, and a public health centre each in Bhangel and in Bisrakh. “On Saturday, 600 health workers will be vaccinated in the district at six centres, after the inauguration,” he said.
These vaccines had been manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII). Noida has received 2,884 vials, each of which has 10 doses, said the CMO.
A police team has been deployed to guard the vaccines at the CMO’S office 24X7.
Security personnel had covered the van while the vaccine was being unloaded, even as media persons struggled to take photos.
Dr Neeraj Tyagi, the district immunisation officer and in-charge of the Covid vaccination process, said that on Saturday, only six hundred health workers will be vaccinated. “We have made elaborate arrangements for the vaccination drive. There are 24,453 health workers in the district. We have not received guidelines on vaccination drives for the rest health workers. We will share the details after Saturday’s programme,” he said.
Ajit Kumar, spokesperson, Sharda hospital, said the hospital has set up 10 vaccination booths at the hospital. “We have capacity for four more booths. We hope to receive the vaccines on Friday. We have received information that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the programme on Saturday. We have connected one booth with internet for video conferencing. A team of doctors have been appointed for this booth,” he said. He added that from Monday, about 1,000 people will be vaccinated per day at the hospital. The drive will be held twice a week – Mondays and Fridays, he said.
Spokesperson of Kailash Hospital in Sector 27, V B Joshi, said that the seventh floor of the hospital building has been reserved for vaccination drive. “We have handed over the premise to the district health department. They have set up six booths for vaccination,” he said.
