GHAZIABAD: The NCR Transport Corporation (NCRTC) said on Thursday that they have started with the construction of their first depot for the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor at Duhai in Ghaziabad.

The corridor will connect Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut over an 82-km rail link.

The NCRTC officials said that the Duhai depot will also have an RRTS station close by and both facilities will be developed over 51 hectares. “This state-ofthe-art depot will have advance facilities for the maintenance of RRTS trainsets,” said spokesperson of NCRTC.

The deliberations for acquiring land for the depot had been going on since December 2019 and the NCRTC approached even the Ghaziabad development authority. However, later NCRTC decided to purchase the land directly from farmers.

Official sources said that the depot will first cater to the 17-km priority stretch between Sahibabad and Duhai scheduled to begin operations in 2023. The entire 82-km corridor, estimated to cost over ₹30,000 crore, is scheduled for commissioning in 2025.

“The Duhai depot will have capacity for stabling of 12 trains, three inspection bay lines and two workshop lines of standard gauge with running test track of about one kilometre. It will also have advanced facilities for maintenance of trains including automatic washing plant, depot control centre, administrative building and backup operational centre among other facilities,” said an official source.

They added that it will also have driver training facility with train simulators and will also take up periodic maintenance of trainsets.
