CBI SUSPENDS 2, CALLS FOR ACTION AGAINST TWO OTHER OFFICIALS IN BRIBERY RACKET
NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday suspended an inspector and a stenographer, and approached the Department of Personnel and Training recommending administrative action against two deputy superintendent rank officials for allegedly running a bribe-forrelief racket in the agency, people familiar with the matter said.
The four officers — inspector Kapil Dhankad, stenographer Sameer Kumar Singh, and deputy superintendents RK Rishi and RK Sangwan — were allegedly accepting bribes from companies under CBI investigation for bank frauds.
A senior CBI officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “The agency has zero tolerance policy against corruption, be it other departments or within the organisation hence two officers have been suspended while action has been recommended against the other two.”
According to the CBI, the accused officers were accepting bribes from private companies by leaking sensitive information related to the cases against them. Two of the officers were paid bribes worth around Rs 55 lakh while efforts are on to ascertain the amount of the payments made to two others, the officer cited above said.
As reported by HT, the racket was being run inside the agency since 2018 and there is a possibility that more officers are involved in diluting the CBI cases in lieu of illegal gratifications.
CBI director Rishi Kumar Shukla did not respond HT’S queries.
