On the road to recovery
India on Saturday launched the world’s largest vaccination drive against the coronavirus pandemic that has upended millions of lives. In his address to the nation ahead of the launch, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reminded people that two doses of the vaccine were very important and asked them to continue with masks and social distancing even after receiving the jabs. “Dawaai bhi, kadaai bhi (Yes to vaccine, yes to caution),” he said.
The Union health ministry said 191,181 people were inoculated on the first day at 3,351 session sites. The shots are first being offered to an estimated 30 million health care and frontline workers in the first phase, followed by people above 50 yrs and those below 50 with comorbidities.
