NOIDA: A 25-year-old woman was arrested by the Noida police for allegedly kidnapping a six-year-old girl from an area located under the Phase 2 police station jurisdiction and forcing her to beg at street crossings.

On January 15, the girl’s mother had approached the Phase 2 police.

She had alleged in her complaint that her daughter had been missing since the morning.

She had further alleged that the suspect woman, who worked with her at a contractor’s office, was also suspiciously missing.

Based on this, a case was registered at the Phase 2 police station under Section 363 (punishment for kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code.

The woman was identified as Neelu Kushwaha, who is from Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district. Police officials said that upon questioning people in her home town, it was found that Kushwaha had fled with the child to Delhi.

“She was apprehended on January 17 from near the Sector 82 red light and the child was recovered from her,” said Anita Chauhan, station house officer, Phase 2 police station.

The girl was sent for a medical examination and later handed over to the family. Upon questioning the woman, it was found that she allegedly intended to use the girl to beg on the streets, said the police officers.

Police officials also said that the suspect, Kushwaha, was allegedly estranged from her family in the state of Madhya Pradesh and was a suspect in the “mysterious” death of her own daughter which took place a few years back. Chauhan said she is already under investigation for her role in her daughter’s death.

Following Kushwaha’s arrest, section 363A of the Indian Penal Code (Kidnapping or maiming a minor for purposes of begging) was added to the first information report against her.

She was produced before a magistrate and later sent to judicial custody.

The suspect was nabbed from near the Sector 82 red light. The child was recovered from her and returned to her family after a medical exam. ANITA CHAUHAN, SHO, Phase 2 police station
