GREATER NOIDA: The Greater Noida authority on Thursday celebrated its 30th foundation day with an event held at the City Park, located near the Jaypee Sports complex.

The event started with the inauguration of an open gym at the City Park. The facility is available for free to visitors to the park, which is one of the largest in the city. The open gym has equipment such as air walkers, sit-up benches, air swings, stair steppers, leg presses, pull-up chairs, exercise bars, chest presses, bench presses, sit-up stations, cross-walkers, twister and rowing machines, among others.

The event was attended by the Member of Parliament from Gautam Budh Nagar, Dr Mahesh Sharma, Rajya Sabha MP Surendra Nagar, Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh, Dadri MLA Tejpal Nagar and Greater Noida authority chief executive officer Narendra Bhooshan, among others. After inaugurating the open gym, the authority appreciated the work done by healthcare staff and socially active citizens, who served food and helped deliver other benefits to people left jobless during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Dr Mahesh Sharma appreciated the authority putting developmental works on the fasttrack.

“The authority has given a boost to the industrial sector and expedited work on all ongoing projects. We hope that the authority will continue doing good work so that issues faced by the general public get addressed,” said Sharma.

He added that with the Noida International Airport at Jewar coming up, Greater Noida is set to witness exponential growth in the time to come.

“The airport will immensely benefit the city as well as adjoining cities. There will be huge investment in this town due to the airport and it will help in a better and balanced growth of this industrial town,” said Dhirendra Singh, Greater MLA.

The UP government had established Greater Noida in 1992 with an aim to create jobs by allowing setting up of industries.

“With investment from domestic and international investors the city got, it proved that it has a bright future and we will continue making it better,” said Bhooshan.

Officials said the authority is working to finalise its Master Plan 2041, which will detail the exact land to be earmarked for industrial, residential, commercial, institutional and other uses. It has plans to earmark land from 80 more villages for expansion and seek required approvals before starting development work next year.

According to the Master Plan 2021, the industrial town has around 38,000 hectares of notified area, largely bounded by NH-24 in the north-west, the Hindon river on the western side, and GT Road/northern Railway mainline to Kolkata on the eastern side, across 124 villages. On the northern and western sides, it is flanked by Ghaziabad and Noida, respectively.
