NOTHING WRONG IN HOISTING SIKH FLAG AT RED FORT, SAYS AKAL TAKHT ACTING JATHEDAR
Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh on Friday said there was nothing wrong in hoisting the Nishan Sahib, the Sikh flag, at the Red Fort during the farmers’ tractor parade in Delhi on Republic Day.
“A lot of hue and cry is being made over hoisting the flag on an empty pole at the Red Fort. This is uncalled for. Such flags symbolising Sikh faith are hoisted by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) every year on the premises of the monument to mark the Fateh Diwas (Victory Day),” the jathedar said in a video message.
“Also, the flag was seen fluttering on the tableau dedicated to the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadar ji during the official Republic Day parade the same day. Calling it a Khalistan flag is not fine,” he added.
The jathedar advised the farmer union leaders to keep the talks channel with the central government over the agriculture laws issue open, saying it is the only way out to find a solution to the deadlock.
“The responsibility of keeping the agitation under control and maintaining discipline on January 26 was of those leading the protests,” he added.
