BJP WILL FIGHT TN ELECTIONS WITH AIADMK: NADDA

- Divya Chandrababu letters@hindustantimes.com

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda announced on Saturday that they will continue their alliance with Tamil Nadu’s ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) for the upcoming state polls.

“The BJP has decided that it will contest the state polls with AIADMK and other like-minded parties,” said Nadda during a rally in Madurai. The AIADMK and BJP joined hands before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, the state’s main opposition party, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), swept the polls in Tamil Nadu, bagging 38 of the 39 Lok Sabha seats.

The AIADMK had announced earlier that it will contest the state polls in coalition with the BJP. “I would like to inform through this meeting that in the coming election the alliance of AIADMK and BJP will continue,” deputy CM O Panneerselvam said in November during home minister Amit Shah’s visit to the state.

Nadda also said that PM Narendra Modi has immense respect for Tamil language and culture.

On the same day, CM E Palaniswami and Paneerselvam inaugurated a temple with statues of party stalwarts and former CMS MG Ramachandran (MGR) and J Jayalalithaa.
