WELFARE SPEND RESET

MGNREGA, food subsidy, and PMAY were three major schemes through which the government sought to reduce the economic pain caused to the poor because of Covid-19 triggered lockdowns. Naturally, allocations to these schemes were significantly revised during FY21. In FY22, only allocation to food subsidy is significantly higher than it was in 2019-20. The finance minister announced the launch of the Jal Jeevan Mission (Urban) and Swacch Bharat Mission Urban 2.0.
