GREATER NOIDA: Dadri MLA Tejpal Nagar has filed a police complaint alleging that he received at least 10 threatening Whatsaapp calls. He said that the number began with Pakistan’s country code +92.

Nagar said he got the calls between 11.29 am and 7.36 pm on Sunday.

“The caller, a man, called me 10 times, of which I personally attended three. He used abusive language and threatened me and my family. The caller said he will kill people who support Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Nagar said in the FIR. Nagar, a former school teacher, had won the Dadri seat in 2017.

When HT reached out to the MLA, his nephew Anuj Nagar attended the call. He said the MLA was in Lucknow on official work and was not available for comment.

Anuj said his uncle had informed the police after the first call and a police team had visited his Dadri home in the afternoon. “The police team was investigating the matter when the suspect called again on the MLA’S number. We have blocked the number,” he said.

The police have increased the MLA’S security in the wake of these calls . Rajveer Singh Chauhan, SHO, Dadri police station, said that based on Nagar’s complaint, a case was registered against unknown persons under Section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. “The police and cyber cell are investigating the matter. We are yet to establish whether the caller is from Pakistan or elsewhere,” he said.
