12 KIDS GIVEN SANITIZER DROPS INSTEAD OF POLIO DOSE IN MAHA
NAGPUR: At least 12 children were allegedly administered hand sanitiser drops instead of oral polio vaccine drops at a primary health centre at in Maharashtra’s Yavatmal district on Sunday afternoon, said state health authorities on Monday.
According to available information, over 2,000 children aged 1-5 years gathered along with their parents for the polio vaccination programme. After being allegedly administered sanitiser drops, the children started vomiting and showed symptoms of uneasiness. All were immediately brought to the paediatric ward of the Government Medical College and Hospital at Yavatmal.
“The condition of the children is stable and they are under observation,” said Dr Milind Kamble, dean, Yavatmal Medical College . “All children are now out of danger,” he added.
Parents alleged that health workers at the booth were reluctant to shift the children to the hospital. Yavatmal district magistrate M Devender Singh spoke to the parents and ordered an inquiry.
