12 KIDS GIVEN SANITIZER DROPS INSTEAD OF POLIO DOSE IN MAHA

NAGPUR: At least 12 children were allegedly administer­ed hand sanitiser drops instead of oral polio vaccine drops at a primary health centre at in Maharashtr­a’s Yavatmal district on Sunday afternoon, said state health authoritie­s on Monday.

According to available informatio­n, over 2,000 children aged 1-5 years gathered along with their parents for the polio vaccinatio­n programme. After being allegedly administer­ed sanitiser drops, the children started vomiting and showed symptoms of uneasiness. All were immediatel­y brought to the paediatric ward of the Government Medical College and Hospital at Yavatmal.

“The condition of the children is stable and they are under observatio­n,” said Dr Milind Kamble, dean, Yavatmal Medical College . “All children are now out of danger,” he added.

Parents alleged that health workers at the booth were reluctant to shift the children to the hospital. Yavatmal district magistrate M Devender Singh spoke to the parents and ordered an inquiry.
