AS CASES REDUCE, ONLY FOUR COVID HOSPITALS LEFT IN NOIDA NOW

- Sanjeev K Jha

NOIDA: Only four dedicated Covid-19 hospitals remain in Gautam Budh Nagar.

The district had four government and five private hospitals to treat Covid-positive patients since the outbreak in March, however most got denotified following fewer new and active cases, and the vaccination drive.

Among the hospitals remaining are the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida, Noida district hospital in sector 39 and the privately-run Yatharth and Fortis hospitals.

GIMS was the only tertiary care centre in the district to handle severe cases.

Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate Suhas LY said, “Only the state government can denotify it as it is a medical college too.”

Privately-run Sharda Hospital, Kailash Hospital, Jaypee Hospital, Fortis hospital and Yatharth hospital, and the state’s Super Speciality Paediatric Hospital and Post Graduate Teaching Institute (SSPHPGTI) in Sector 30, better known as Child PGI and the district hospital in sector 39 were the other dedicated hospitals.

Child PGI was the only government-run institute to be denotified on Monday, five months after it requested the government do so as it had very few minor patients.

Suhas said the district had fewer than 50 Covid-19 cases now, which allowed them to denotify the hospitals. “Among the private hospitals, only Fortis and Yatharth hospitals are dedicated facilities they are treating Covid-19 patients,” said Suhas.

Denotified hospitals have now resumed non-covid treatment.

“We have told them that in case of need, the facilities would have to resume Covid-19 treatment after a five-day notice. As a result of Covid-19 vaccination, the system of active quarantine will also end from March 15,” he said.

Dr Rakesh Gupta, the director of GIMS, said that the hospital had started treating non-covid patients at its out-patient department (OPD). “The average number of patients per day in the OPD is over 500 now. We have treated the most number of Covid-19 patients this past year,” he said.
