RAPE ACCUSED ARRESTED IN 2018 POCSO CASE

NOIDA: A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with the rape of a minor in Greater Noida.

The suspect was identified as Ramveer, a resident of Firozabad. Police said he had allegedly raped a minor girl in 2018 and had been on the run since then.

Varun Pawar, station house officer of Knowledge Park police station, said that a case had been registered against him under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 3 and 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

“The suspect had been absconding for the last three years. The court had issued a non-bailable warrant against him,” he said.

A police team on Friday conducted a search at his house in his village, Ramjapura in Firozabad, and arrested him.

“The suspect was brought to Greater Noida for interrogation. He was later produced in court and sent to judicial custody,” said the police.
