COURT REJECTS BAIL PLEA OF CO-ACCUSED IN FARUQUI CASE
INDORE: The Indore sessions courts on Tuesday rejected a bail application filed by Sadaqat Khan booked along with stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
Khan, who was among the organisers of the show in Indore, was arrested on January 2.
Government advocate Vimal Kumar Mishra said, “Hearing on bail applications from Sadaqat Khan was held in the court of additional sessions judge Yatendra Kumar Guru. The court rejected the bail applications of the accused given the seriousness of the case and organising a controversial show for the commercial purpose.”
Khan moved the sessions court seeking bail on the basis of “parity” as Faruqui was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court four days ago.
The judge, however, rejected his plea, and cited past Supreme Court rulings to say that the grant of bail would not be justified under the law.
Khan’s lawyer Surendra Kumar Verma presented the February 5 order of the Supreme Court granting bail to Faruqui, and said his client should get bail “on the basis of judicial parity”.
Faruqui and five others were arrested following a complaint by Eklavya Singh Gaud alleged objectionable comments made during the show.
