RAILWAYS UNVEILS AC THREE-TIER ‘ECONOMY’ COACH

NEW DELHI: Indian Railways on Wednesday rolled out its first air conditioned three-tier economy class coach, calling it “cheapest and best AC travel in the world”.

Work on the LHB Three Tier Coach which has been designed by Rail Coach Factory (RCF) Kapurthala began in October 2020 with the approval of the Ministry of Railways, the production unit said.

“In this new passenger coach, where modern passenger amenities have been taken to a new peak, the passenger capacity has been increased from 72 to 83 berths,” RCF said in a statement on Wednesday.

“This AC Three Tier Economy Class coach was rolled out from Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala to the Research Designs & Standards Organisation, Lucknow for its upcoming trial. These coaches, will be with an ‘economical’ AC 3-tier Class in between the current Ac3-tier and non-ac Sleeper Class,” it added.

Each coach is provided with a wider and one disabled friendly toilet entry door which is a new initiative, the ministry noted in the statement..
