CONGRESS WILL ABOLISH FARM LAWS IF VOTED TO POWER: PRIYANKA

- S Raju s.raju@htlive.in

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday hit out at the Centre over the new farm laws, saying that if her party was voted to power it would abolish the “draconian laws”.

Addressing a kisan mahapanchayat in Chilkana area of Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district, Priyanka said, “These three laws were drafted in such a way that government ‘mandis’ will eventually close down, the farmers will not get the MSP (minimum support price) and there will be hoarding.”

“Congress would abolish these draconian laws after coming to power,” she said.

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Priyanka said, “PM’S 56-inch chest has a small heart which beats only for his billionaire friends. In other words, the farmers’ voice will become weak, and the voice of billionaires will grow stronger.”

UP law minister Brijesh Pathak said the BJP government was committed to helping farmers and termed Priyanka Gandhi’s tour an “eyewash”. “Some leaders just want to be in the limelight,” he said.
