NOIDA: The Noida Authority on Thursday selected a company to install the intelligent traffic management system (ITMS) on major city roads.

The authority said Afcon India Private Limited will begin installing the ₹64 crore system from May and that it is scheduled to be completed in nine months from then.

Under the project, 84 traffic intersections will first be put under e-surveillance. A control room at sector 94 will be fed data from 40 adaptive traffic control systems, 18 speed detection systems, 22 variable message sign board and 693 automatic number plate reader cameras, among other equipment.

The system, officials said, will help improve traffic management and catching violators.

The authority had first conceived the project in 2012. In 2019, the project was revived and the authority had sanctioned ₹83 crore for it.

“But the agency submitted the lowest bid of ₹64.49 crore,” said Ritu Maheshwari, chief executive officer of the Noida authority. Despite multiple attempts, Afcon India Private Limited representatives could not be reached for comment.
