AGRA: The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has put the Agra metro rail project on the fast track by constructing the first pier (pillar) of the corridor under the 3-km-long elevated section of the priority corridor to be built between Taj East Gate and Fatehabad Road.

Under the Agra Metro Project, two corridors will be constructed. The first corridor will be built between Sikandara and Taj East Gate and the second corridor will come up from Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar. Under the first corridor, a section of about 6 kms between Taj East Gate and Jama Masjid has been marked, officials said.

Total 171 piers are to be constructed on the same stretch to prepare the viaduct of the elevated metro corridor, officials said. UP Metro is expeditiously doing piling work in the same stretch and has completed more than 100 piles, officials said.

Piling work of the stretch is to be carried out with 6 rig machines and 680 piles in all are to be constructed.

According to a press note issued by UPMRC, these piles serve as the foundation for the infrastructure of a metro corridor. “At the same time other civil works are also in progress at PAC ground for metro depot,” the release said.

“UPMRC team has made an achievement by casting 100th pile and constructing first pier on elevated portion of priority section of Agra metro project in a very short time since inauguration for commencement of this prestigious project by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 7 last year,” Kumar Keshav, MD, UPMRC said.
