BHOPAL: Former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath and 13 others, including three MLAS, escaped unhurt after an overcrowded lift plunged from a height of 10 feet in an Indore hospital and its doors got jammed on Sunday, said a district administration officer.

“The grace of Lord Hanumanji has always been with me. Jai Hanuman,” Nath tweeted later.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan later called up Nath to inquire about his health and spoke to Indore Collector Manish Singh, following which a magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the matter.

Nath, along with other Congress leaders, was paying a visit to the hospital to see Congress leader Rameshwar Patel when the incident happened.

Additional superintendent of police (ASP), Rajesh Raghuvanshi, said, “Kamal Nath, three MLAS and 10 Congress workers entered the lift. The overloaded lift, which has a carrying capacity of 10 people, fell down. The former CM and others were stuck for a few minutes.”

MP Congress Committee spokesperson Narendra Saluja said the lift was not overloaded. He urged the district administration to take strict action against the hospital administration.
