WASHINGTON: In his first public appearance since leaving White House, Donald Trump is likely to declare himself the “presumptive 2024 nominee” for president at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Florida on February 28, a US media report said.

Trump is likely to say, “I may not have Twitter or the Oval Office, but I’m still in charge”, Axios quoting top Trump allies, including a longtime adviser, reported.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court cleared the way for New York prosecutors to obtain Trump’s tax records, which he had refused to release.

WASHINGTON/SEOUL: In his upcoming first public appearance since leaving White House, Donald Trump is likely to declare himself the “presumptive 2024 nominee” for president, a US media report said.

Trump is expected to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Florida on February 28.

He will declare himself the “presumptive” nominee and is likely to say, “I may not have Twitter or the Oval Office, but I’m still in charge”, Axios reported citing top Trump allies including a longtime adviser, without identifying any of them.

On Monday, the Supreme Court cleared the way for New York prosecutors to obtain Trump’s tax records, which he had refused to release and

fought to prevent from being made public. This is a major setback for Trump, who is facing many criminal and civil cases.

Trump’s aides and relatives have all pointed to a possible presidential run in 2024, though he hadn’t spoken about it. “We will be back in some form,” Trump said in his last remarks as president on January 20.

Though he kept a low profile, he lashed out at GOP leaders who are seeking to cut his influence in the party, such as Mitch

Mcconnell, the top Senate Republican. Many others who had criticised him in the immediate aftermath of the Capitol attack of January 6 have since fallen in line.

‘Trump offered N Korea’s Kim an Air Force One ride’

Trump offered North Korean leader Kim Jong Un a ride home on Air Force One after a summit in Hanoi two years ago, according to a new BBC documentary Trump Takes on the World. It shows that the former US president “stunned even the most seasoned diplomats” by offering Kim a lift home on Air Force One after the 2019 summit in Vietnam. If Kim had accepted the offer, it would have put him inside Trump’s official aircraft and seen it enter North Korean airspace, but he turned it down.
