Myanmar junta faces sanctions
YANGON: The world’s wealthiest nations condemned Myanmar’s junta for violence against anti-coup protesters, amid further sanctions from the US and the EU. “Use of live ammunition against unarmed people is unacceptable,” said the foreign ministers of the G7 group - Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain and the US - and the EU in a statement. The US blacklisted two more members of the junta. The EU approved sanctions targeting Myanmar’s military and their economic interests, with financial support to the government reform programmes also withheld.
