It’s strange how electronic music formatted itself and forgot that its roots are about the surprise, freedom, and the acceptance of every race, gender, and style of music into this big party. Bangalter and Guy-manuel de Homem-christo formed Daft Punk in Paris in 1993, and announced their split last week. But their dissatisfaction with the genre had been long simmering, as this statement, made in Pitchfork magazine in 2013, shows.
