A 60-year-old man allegedly bludgeoned his wife, 50, with a hammer in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district over the suspicion that she was in an illicit relationship, officials said on Wednesday. The accused also killed two of his daughters, aged 20 and 15, while a third, 18, is critically injured, the officials said.

The incident happened in Ambedkar Nagar locality under Shikarpur police station limits in Bulandshahr on Tuesday night, the officials cited above said.

“The man suspected his wife of having an illicit relationship. He would often fight at home. Last night also they fought,” Bulandshahr senior superintendent of police (SSP) SK Singh said.

“Some time after his wife and daughters fell asleep in the night, the man hit them with a hammer on their heads,” he said, adding that the accused fled the scene after the crime.

Neighbours spotted the four lying in a pool of blood and informed the couple’s 22-yearold son, who lives in a separate house. The son informed police officials who rushed the victims to the Shikarpur health centre where doctors declared the wife and two daughters dead. The third daughter has been referred to Meerut medical college for treatment.

Four teams have been formed to arrest the accused after the couple’s son filed a murder case against him, Singh said.
