NOIDA: the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall in the city and nearby areas from Thursday, with a possibility of heavy rain from Friday for the next few days, which will bring some respite from the humidity and also make up the rainfall deficiency in the city, weather scientists said. .

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Noida is currently 65% rainfall (June 1 till date). It has so far received only 167mm of rainfall, against the expected 481.7mm. The city this week saw some patchy rain, and recorded 1mm rainfall over the past 24 hours.

The weather analysts said rain is likely in the city till next Tuesday, with a possibility of high intensity rain between Thursday and Saturday.

“A low pressure system, which developed over the Bay of Bengal, has reached Gujarat and will go towards south-west Madhya Pradesh and south-east

Rajasthan. Due to this, the axis of the monsoon trough line will shift northwards and that will lead to an intrusion of moisture laden easterly winds. The region is likely to receive rainfall till September 14, against the earlier forecast of September 10. The city and neighbouring areas may see high intensity rains between Thursday and Saturday, with more possibility on Friday and Saturday. This will also bring the

mercury down slightly,”said Mahesh Palawat, vice-president, meteorology and climate change, Skymet, a private weather forecasting centre.

“On Thursday, the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 33 and 24 degrees Celsius (°C), respectively,” said an official from the IMD.

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature in Noida was 33.3°C, almost the same as the maximum of 33.4°C a day earlier. The minimum was 26.6°C, against a minimum of 27.4°C on Tuesday.

At Safdarjung monitoring station, considered the average for the National Capital Region, the maximum was recorded at 33.7°C, which is normal for this time of the year, and a minimum of 26°C, a degree above the season’s average.
