Plot allottees seek interest waiver

GREATER NOIDA: The allottees of an industrial plot scheme on Friday said that the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) has not given them interest waiver on dues for the last two years despite approving a proposal in this regard. Yeida on June 28, 2021, in its 70th board meeting, had approved a proposal to waive off interest for two years (from April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2020) for those allottees who could get possession of their respective plots and basic civic amenities on time.

The interest waiver was given after the allottees filed a plea in the Allahabad high court, seeking relief from paying interest. Yeida had waived off interest on the ground that the plot allottee will have to submit an affidavit stating that they will take back their court case and also will not file any case in this regard in the future. “We have withdrawn the case in the Allahabad high court in accordance with the condition set by Yeida, but the authority staff is not providing us the interest waiver relief. We met Yeida’s chief executive officer multiple times requesting a waiver. The CEO assured us that the waiver will be provided, but the staff is not doing the needful in accordance with the board’s decision,” said Rishabh Nigam, president, Yamuna Expressway Entrepreneurs’ Association, a group of plot allottees.

The waiver was sought as the Yeida failed in giving possession of the industrial plots. “On our demand, Yeida declared a zero period for two years at its board meeting, asking the allottees to only pay the principal amount of the plots. We do not understand why the Yeida is harassing us now,” added Nigam.

Yeida launched the scheme in 2013 and had promised possession of the plots at the earliest. “The authority is yet to take possession of the plots from farmers. We trusted the authority and withdrew our court case but it is yet to provide us relief,” said Imran Ghani, the secretary of Yamuna Expressway Entrepreneurs’ Association. Yeida CEO Arun Vir Singh was unavailable for comment.
