THE ₹500-CRORE 4.8-KM PROJECT WAS THE CITY’S FIRST ELEVATED ROAD AND WAS OPENED TO THE PUBLIC IN 2017

NOIDA: The Noida authority on Friday said that it has started a detailed probe into the resurfacing work done on an elevated road that connects Vishwa Bharati Public School in Sector 30 to Sector 61.

The ₹500-crore 4.8-kilometre-long project that was the city’s first elevated road was opened for public use on June 28, 2017 by then state industry minister Satish Mahana.

The road was built to ease traffic congestion faced by commuters travelling from Ghaziabad and Greater Noida areas to south Delhi via Noida.

During last year’s monsoon season, the surface of the elevated road was washed away and the Noida authority repaired it, said officials. According to the terms and conditions signed by the contractor, he was supposed to take care of the maintenance and resurfacing work and it was not the authority’s job.

“The road surface was damaged after last year’s monsoon and was repaired subsequently by the authority. The project was under maintenance liability of the contractor, who moved court due to some payment issues. We have directed our officials to form a technical committee to look into the matter,” said Ritu Maheshwari, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Noida authority.

Officials said that the contractor refused to resurface or maintain the road because of a dispute with the authority due to financial issues.

The elevated road was built to ease traffic congestion around residential areas, including Sectors 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29,31 and 33, among others and the project began on October 14, 2014.

The six-lane elevated road bypasses seven intersections, with exits and entries at Nithari, Sector 30, NTPC and Sector 24 to ensure seamless traffic flow.
