POLICE SAID THEY CAME TO KNOW ABOUT THE ARMS FACTORY WHEN THEY STOPPED A CAR AND FOUND THE OCCUPANTS CARRYING ARMS

NOIDA : An illegal arms manufacturing unit was busted from the Jewar area of Gautam Budh Nagar district on Friday, said the police. A huge cache of illegally manufactured firearms was also recovered and five suspects were arrested, added the police. The suspects used to supply country-made pistols and other firearms on demand that were used in criminal activities, added the police. They have been identified as Jagveer, Shahrukh, Sameer, Asif and Bilal —all residents of Jewar.

A complaint has also been registered against the five suspects under sections of the Arms Act, said the police.

The police said that they came to know about the illegal arms factory when they apprehended a vehicle at a routine checkpost near Jhajhar Road on Thursday. The two men in the car were carrying two .32 bore pistols and two country-made pistols of .315 bore along with eight cartridges.

“We interrogated them further and they revealed that they had purchased the arms from Jagveer, who runs an illegal arms factory inside a house in Madhaiya village in Jewar,” said Anjani Kumar Singh, station house officer (SHO) of Jewar police station.

Based on the information, a team was sent to the area on Friday. Jagveer was arrested from the spot and a large quantity of illegal arms and raw materials to make the weapons were recovered. Around eight country-made pistols and several cases of live ammunition along with equipment used to manufacture the arms have been seized,” SHO Singh added.

According to the police, the suspects used to work at a gun shop and started the illegal arms factory around three years back. They would sell countrymade pistols at ₹5,000- ₹7,000 and .32 bore pistols at ₹30,000₹40,000, depending upon demand.

The police said that the suspects would also send weapons to a supplier and he will also be nabbed soon and further investigations are underway.
