Gautam Budh Nagar Police on Saturday busted a gang involved in the looting of a truck along the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) on Wednesday night in the Dankaur police station area.

During the incident, the truck driver, who had parked the heavy vehicle along the side of the expressway for a nap, was looted and left tied-up while aluminium articles and money was looted from him.

Police said that the gang has been notorious and active across several cities and had at least a dozen cases registered against them at police stations across the National Capital Region (NCR) for loot, snatching and other such crimes.

While three suspects were arrested, one more from the gang is still at large. According to police, the arrested suspects have been identified as Amit, Rihaan Malik and Mohit, all residents of Faridabad in Haryana.

Vishal Pandey, additional

deputy commissioner of police, Greater Noida, said that the Jarcha police station was initially informed that a truck carrying items made of aluminium and fibre was looted along the EPE. The truck driver had parked his vehicle near a petrol pump and dozed off.

“Three bike-borne assailants saw the truck and woke up the driver asking for help. As soon as the driver came out of the truck, the suspects took him at gun-point and boarded the truck with him. They drove towards Haryana and pushed him along a road near a jungle in Sahupura village with his hands and legs tied up, while they fled with the truck,” said ADCP Pandey.

“As soon as we received the information, two police teams were formed to investigate the matter and all suspicious vehicles were on surveillance. Late on Saturday night, we received a tip-off that the gang will travel to Bulandshahr to sell the stolen goods. A trap was laid and police arrested three suspects along with the stolen goods and a mini truck that was being used to transport the goods within 72 hours of the incident,” ADCP Pandey added.

Police recovered 14 aluminium gates, a Mahindra pick-up truck, and a motorcycle, among other things robbed by the gang previously. The suspects were booked under Section 392 (punishment for robbery) and Section 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Arms Act. They were later produced in a court and sent to judicial custody.
